About This Project

Award-winning chef Mark Schmidt decided to bring his culinary creations from Cafe 909 in Marble Falls to Austin and launch Blackbird and Henry in the heart of the central-Austin campus community. Inspired by his dog Henry and Henry’s love of chasing blackbirds, Mark and his wife created a new twist on an English-style gastro pub food. We evaluated the existing space (starting with the interior of Another Broken Egg) and worked to create an entire new look by removing everything but the walls. We inspired the private entry for guests, the space for watching sports, and the New England oyster bar with an adjoining community table for community conversations. We selected the interior materials and created the anchoring 30-foot wall of vintage dog pictures (which we found, printed, framed and hung). We also designed the logo, signage, aprons for the wait staff, menus and visuals for the weekly curry and pint night!
